New NAP-XPS instrument strengthens surface analysis for Power-to-X materials
A new near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy setup at Aarhus University gives CAPeX researchers access to advanced surface analysis under more realistic conditions. The instrument can be used to study catalysts, battery materials, electrochemical interfaces and other materials central to the green transition.

Understanding what happens at the material surface is essential for developing improved materials for Power-to-X technologies. Catalysts, battery materials, electrochemical interfaces and CO₂ capture materials all depend on surface reactions, where small changes can strongly influence performance.
A new near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy setup, NAP-XPS, has now been installed at Aarhus University. The instrument extends the use of lab-source XPS to gas-solid and liquid-solid interfaces, making it possible to study surfaces under conditions closer to real working environments.
The NAP-XPS infrastructure is accessible to the CAPeX team after discussion of relevant research questions and experimental possibilities. It can support studies of surface-sensitive materials relevant to Power-to-X technologies.
